Anwar El Ghazi is ‘on the brink’ of signing for Everton reports talkSPORT

Everton are understood to be on the brink of signing Aston Villa midfielder Anwar El Ghazi, talkSPORT are reporting.

According to the broadcaster, a permanent transfer is imminent and will cost the Toffees £15million.

The signing would represent a third incoming transfer during the January window following full-backs Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko.

Splashing the cash

The transfer activity at Goodison appears to be showing no signs of slowing down if the Dutchman is to arrive on Merseyside.

The dreadful downturn in form under Rafael Benitez has apparently sparked the ownership into sanctioning millions in expenditure.

The ability of the Spanish manager to conduct moves in the transfer market was thought to hinge largely on the departure of full-back Lucas Digne but, while that is yet to happen, it seems that has not stopped moves being made for new additions.

Whether this means the mooted approach for Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff will no longer go ahead remains to be seen.

El Ghazi had been an important figure at Villa Park under Sean Smith but with major changes underway at the midlands side under new boss Steven Gerrard, he appears to be surplus to requirements and now looks to be heading to Goodison.

If he can find some form and break with a recent trend of transfer failures Everton may be able to start to climb up the league table.

In other Everton news, this Goodison man has signed a new three-year contract.
