Aston Villa expect to sign Everton defender Lucas Digne today

Aston Villa are on the cusp of securing the services of Everton left-back Lucas Digne, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Sky Sports journalist claims that the Villa Park outfit are confident of completing his signing today. (January 12).

The talks for the deal have reached the final stage with new contacts set to be made in the coming few hours.

Via his personal Twitter account, Romano said, “Aston Villa are confident to complete Lucas Digne signing today. Talks at final stages – new direct contacts with Everton in the next hours. Personal terms already agreed. Deal will be on a permanent move.”

Finally

The Digne saga was unnecessarily long-drawn and we’re delighted that it’s finally been put to bed.

The left-back’s future at the club was untenable ever since his fallout with Rafa Benitez.

When Vitality Mykolenko arrived at Goodison Park, that virtually signalled the beginning of the end of his time at the club.

Everton

Since then, he’s not played a single minute, despite being on the bench and fit to step onto the pitch.

Benitez even preferred playing a centre-back out of position at left-back rather than starting Digne.

Moving to Villa could be seen as risky for Everton as they’re their direct rivals in the Premier League.

Both teams will be fighting for a top-half finish and this transfer clearly strengthens the team from Birmingham.

In other Everton news, the club want to sign a player labelled ‘Excellent’ by Cristiano Ronaldo with the European club keen on cashing in.
