Kevin Campbell begs Everton fans to give Vitaliy Mykolenko chance after debut

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has urged Everton fans to give Vitaliy Mykolenko a chance at Goodison Park as he starts his career.

The ex-Toffees talisman has insisted that the Toffees faithful cannot compare the new signing to Lucas Digne.

Mykolenko made his first-team debut in the 3-2 victory against Hull City in the FA Cup last weekend as the defence struggled again.

“I thought he did alright, but it’s going to take a while,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“It’s his first game, what people tend to do is look at Lucas Digne and then say look at him. Give him a chance, he’s got a good left foot, he’s learning on the job.”

It wasn’t the best of starts given that we conceded two goals against poor Championship opposition.

That has been a problem all season though for the Toffees, and nothing to do with Mykolenko coming into the side.

The Ukrainian international will be given time and is the only senior left-back at the club after Digne completed his move to Aston Villa this week.

Nathan Patterson may also make his bow against Norwich on Saturday (15th January), and the same patience must be handed to him.

These are two young players, and they have many years until they hit their peak years, let’s hope it happens at Goodison Park.
