Ian Wright believes Rafa Benitez is likely to be sacked by Everton

Ian Wright does not see a way back for Rafa Benitez at Everton after they suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat against Norwich on Saturday (January 15).

According to Sky Sports, the Toffees are holding a board meeting to discuss his immediate future after a disappointing run of results.

Farhad Moshiri was the one who backed Benitez to succeed despite fans being against the appointment.

Speaking on Premier League Productions’ post-match show on Saturday night, Wright said, “You can’t go to Norwich and lose that way. Unfortunately for Benitez, there might be no way back for him.

“It remains to be seen what Moshiri does and who he wants to bring in because this decision has not worked out.”

Exit written in stone?

It seems that nothing is going in Benitez’s favour and there’s nobody who’s coming out to say that his job is secure.

What’s strange is that the club backed his decision to let go of Lucas Digne and also sacked Marcel Brands to give him more authority in the transfer market.

What followed was the Toffees spending a great deal in the January window and signing three players, two of whom came on decent transfer fees.

If after two games Moshiri decides to sack him, then he should’ve decided to play hardball and keep Digne at the club.

He was undoubtedly one of the club’s best players and his sale ended up strengthening a rival in the form of Aston Villa.

It remains to be seen where Moshiri goes from here if he does decide to part ways with the Spaniard.

In other Everton news, the club want to sign a player labelled ‘Excellent’ by Cristiano Ronaldo with the European club keen on cashing in.
