Everton considering two-candidate shortlist in bid to replace Benitez
Everton are considering a two-candidate shortlist in their search for Rafa Benitez’s replacement, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Spaniard was shown the exit door at Goodison Park on Sunday, with Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Norwich City at Carrow Road proving to be the final straw.
The Toffees will now look to bring in their sixth manager in six years, and the Sky Sports Italia journalist has taken to his personal Twitter account to share an update.
He said: “Everton have officially sacked Rafa Benitez, confirmed as expected after yesterday emergency meeting.
“Board now considering two candidates shortlist to find a replacement.”
No more mistakes
The Blues clearly have a lot of problems behind the scenes as six managers cannot be all wrong.
Losing nine of their last 12 Premier League fixtures, finding themselves just six points above the relegation zone and in 15th place in the table became too much for Farhad Moshiri to handle.
Not many could have seen Benitez leaving after just six months into a three-year deal despite the initial backlash his appointment caused.
It was a decision that was unpopular as they come, and the club cannot keep getting it wrong.

They need to get in someone capable of getting them into Europe, but more changes are required behind the scenes too.
Something is definitely going wrong at Goodison Park, and it will take more than a manager to right it.
It will be interesting to see who they appoint, but they are surely not short of options and will not be short of applications in the coming days.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
