Journo names his choice to be next Everton manager after Benitez sacking

Rafael Benitez’s sacking at Everton has sparked all kinds of reports suggesting a number of managers could make the move to Goodison Park.

Duncan Ferguson is likely to take temporary charge of the Toffees but the search for another new manager has already begun.

Sky Sports’ news editor Alan Myers has taken to social media to make his ideal replacement clear to Everton fans.

“My choice would be Christophe Galtier, wins the title with Lille, takes over a mediocre Nice side and now has them 2nd in the division, no ties, something fresh, passionate?” Myers said on his personal Twitter account.

A gamble worth taking

Ancelotti didn’t work, neither did Benitez, maybe now is the time for Everton to move away from the highly experienced, serial winners and go for a different type of manager.

Galtier has spent his entire playing (bar a year in Italy and China) and managerial career in France and most recently has been in the dugout for OGC Nice in Ligue 1.

Everton

The South-coast side are flying up in second which is no surprise given Galtier won the French top division with Lille last season.

So is now the time he steps out of his comfort zone and challenges himself in a country other than France?

Everton could be the perfect place for him to try that but the question remains would he leave Nice mid-season for a relegation battle in the Premier League.

If Nice were in mid-table, it might be a more intriguing prospect but with them up in second, you can’t see why he would give that up.

And with a relegation scrap on the horizon, maybe Everton need someone with a proven record of keeping teams up for the rest of this season.

Galtier could be an option to go after in the summer instead.
