Sky Sports journalist drops Rafa Benitez update on Sunday morning after Everton talks
Rafa Benitez is “hanging by a thread” on Sunday morning after the Everton board held crisis talks about his future on Saturday night, according to Sky Sports journalist Ben Ransom.
As quoted on Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre on 16 January [10:27am], Ransom reported that tensions have risen to the point where the club is seriously considering sacking Benitez after their Saturday loss at Norwich.
It is understood that Benitez is now on the verge of being sacked.

“We’re waiting for official movement after what we heard last night that there were discussions about Rafael Benitez’s future with the Board talking to Farhad Moshiri about Benitez all against the backdrop of supporter protests and poor results and really humbling and disappointing performances, not least that loss against Norwich yesterday,” said Ransom.
“You have to say he is hanging by a thread today (Sunday). Since Roberto Martinez left in 2016, Benitez is the fifth permanent Everton manager, and you have to say this morning he’s very much on the brink.”

Announcement soon?
It sure seems as though it’s a matter of when and not if Everton sack Benitez.
From the very start, Benitez’s appointment as Everton manager has been a mess and clearly, Moshiri was totally wrong to appoint him.
He needed a steady pair of hands to guide the club amid Financial Fair Play issues but Benitez simply hasn’t been that man.
Instead, within six months of being at Goodison Park, Benitez has seen director of football Marcel Brands leave and Lucas Digne sold to Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
It’s absolutely rank rotten that someone can have such a huge negative impact on a club inside six months.
Everton could be relegated this season. It’s actually a serious possibility.
But with no director of football to help out, we really doubt that Moshiri will get this next appointment right.
