Niko Kovac’s candidacy at Everton being pushed

The candidacy of Niko Kovac is being pushed as Everton look to hire a new manager following Rafa Benitez’s exit, according to The Telegraph.

The German-born Croatian, 50, is keen to work in the Premier League, and it remains to be seen whether the Toffees will move for him after their plans to bring Roberto Martinez back to Goodison Park fell through.

Kovac was sacked by AS Monaco on January 1 and he boasts of experience having also managed Bayern Munich.

Everton

Solid option?

The former Croatia and Eintracht Frankfurt boss won the DFB-Pokal with the latter in 2017-18 after guiding them to the finals the season before.

He won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup with Bayern in the 16 months he spent with them before moving to the Ligue 1.

Monaco reached the Coupe de France finals last season after leading them to third place in the table, missing out on the title by just five points, and Everton could do with such a manager.

He is probably not someone Farhad Moshiri will be keen on appointing as he is not particularly popular and never managed in the English top-flight before.

However, this is the type of manager Everton should be looking to hire after the job he did at his last two clubs.

Everton

He got Bayern and Monaco playing some fine football and got some needed results, and that is what the Goodison Park outfit need going forward.

They simply cannot make a mess of their sixth managerial appointment in six years, and they have to make the right decision after several mistakes.

Many names have been linked with the job since Benitez was fired on Sunday and more names will definitely keep emerging, and the Toffees need to think well before making a decision.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
