Roberto Martinez does not want to quit Belgium for Everton job

Roberto Martinez has reportedly told the Belgian Football Association that he does not want to quit that job for Everton.

According to The Telegraph, the Spaniard is open to managing both roles simultaneously until the FIFA World Cup later this year.

The same publication reported on January 16 that the club had made contact and launched an official approach to secure his services.

Not this again

After sacking Rafa Benitez, many believed that the club and Farhad Moshiri would look to the future.

However, they’ve opted to go for a former manager who certainly had his moments at Goodison Park, but is not what they need right now.

What they require is a manager who has the reputation of building squads, playing an attractive brand of football and improving the players he’s got under his reign.

Managers like Christophe Galtier, Graham Potter and Paulo Fonseca are such names, but Martinez, unfortunately, is not.

Also, it’s hard to envisage how he could manage two roles at the same time as it’s a high pressure job to manage a country in a World Cup year.

Belgium have not particularly impressed under Martinez either and could possibly sack him if he doesn’t win or at least reach the finals in Qatar later this year and early 2023.

In other Everton news, the club want to sign a player labelled ‘Excellent’ by Cristiano Ronaldo with the European club keen on cashing in.
