Everton squad want Ferguson as boss as Brighton technical director Dan Ashworth eyed
The Everton squad are pushing for Duncan Ferguson to be given the manager job on a permanent basis, according to 90min.
The Toffees are in search of a new boss after firing Rafa Benitez on Sunday (16 January), but they also want to recruit a technical director after Marcel Brands left, and they are keen on Brighton’s Dan Ashworth.
Everton have also been linked with Seagulls boss Graham Potter, but he has insisted he is focused on his current job.

Ferguson, 50, is now eyeing up the job and wants to be considered if he takes over in the short term.
Needed
The former Blues striker is very popular with the Toffees squad, and it is not a surprise that they want him to take up the job permanently.
However, whether Farhad Moshiri is open to giving him that chance remains to be seen.
Ferguson has been tasked with leading the taking the training sessions for now and is expected to be in charge for weekend’s clash against Aston Villa.
He previously took over on an interim basis when Marco Silva was dismissed in late 2019, and he could be doing so again for a while.
Should Everton look elsewhere in their search for a manager, then appointing a technical director is pertinent after their former director of football left in December.

Ashworth has contributed immensely to Brighton’s recent growth since assuming the role in 2019, and the 50-year-old could help solve the Toffees problems on and off the pitch.
The former FA director of elite development was once shortlisted by Manchester United as a candidate for the technical director in 2018, and Everton will be lucky to lure him away from Brighton.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
