Derby County manager Wayne Rooney keen on Everton job

Derby County boss Wayne Rooney is believed to be keen on taking over the reins at his former club Everton, according to The Daily Mail.

He is said to have done an “excellent job” at the Rams and his players believe that a move to Goodison Park may be too good an opportunity to resist.

They believe that it is a likely proposition that the 36-year-old abandons ship to work at his boyhood club.

Tad early?

Rooney knows that the Everton job is his, not just now, but even five years later.

He’s got a special connection with the fans and is also rated highly among the club hierarchy.

However, he’s only managed 64 games so far in his managerial career and the Everton job may be too big for him right now.

Ideally, he should see how his time at Derby transpires as he’s already increasing his stock by making them punch above their weight in the Championship.

Despite a points deduction, he’s managing to deliver results and it would be one of the greatest escapes if he manages to save them for the drop.

Abandoning that project for an Everton team in a mess may not be the best thing for him personally.

What the Toffees need to do is bring in someone with the experience of building squads and one who plays a brand of football that the fans can get behind.
