Journalist backs Duncan Ferguson for Everton interim job
Everton are still searching for their next manager after sacking Rafael Benitez on Sunday (16 January) and there have been plenty of names mentioned.
According to The Times’ Football Writer Tom Williams though, the ideal choice for the rest of this season is already at Goodison Park.
He believes that Duncan Ferguson would be the ideal man to take charge of the Toffees and steer them clear of the relegation scrap they are so nearly embroiled in.

“Give it Big Dunc to the end of the season,” Williams said on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast, “That would be my approach.
“They’re doing some of the right things and this predates Benitez’s departure this strategic review.
“It’s the sensible thing to be doing; give it to Ferguson, see what kind of impact he can have and then make sure that when you make the next decision be that the coach, be that the sporting director, that you get it right.”
Exactly the man for the job
He’s done it before at Goodison Park, taking over from Marco Silva in 2019 and turning the Toffees’ form around, he can do it again.

Finding another permanent manager at this time in the year is an incredibly difficult task with most of the best in the business already tied down to a role elsewhere.
Manchester United have already appointed an interim manager for just this season with sights set on bringing in a fresh face next season, and Everton should do the same.
Ferguson already knows the club and its players enough to be able to hit the ground running and his passion for Everton runs deep, something he can relay onto the players.
Reports are linking all kinds of people with the manager’s position at Goodison Park but the best thing the Merseyside club can do right now is trust in what they have.
In other Everton news, Farhad Moshiri could engineer a transfer to the club for this Old Trafford outcast.
