Usmanov and Moshiri work through Everton shortlist, two interviews lined up for new manager

Everton want to interview Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney for the managerial vacancy at Goodison, according to the Telegraph.

On Tuesday [18 January], it was confirmed that Duncan Ferguson had been appointed as caretaker manager after Rafa Benitez was sacked at the weekend.

It is understood that Farhad Moshiri met with Ferguson at Finch Farm yesterday to tell him and the interim coaching team they have his full support.

Meanwhile, work is ongoing to appoint Benitez’s full-time replacement and owner Moshiri and business partner Alisher Usmanov are reportedly working through a list of names.

The Telegraph claims Moshiri and Usmanov will interview Lampard but they need to reach an agreement with cash-strapped Derby before holding talks with ex-Blues forward Rooney.

Leave it to Kenwright

If Moshiri should have learned one thing about himself since becoming the owner of Everton Football Club, it’s that he’s better off staying silent when it comes to managerial hires.

It seems that the businessman is always pushing his agenda behind the scenes but in this case, we feel it should be left to the more capable and experienced hands of Kenwright.

Moshiri and Usmanov don’t know the game as well as Kenwright does and what good is it having him on the board if his opinion is not valued?

Lampard and Rooney are two candidates that do not surprise us – but why isn’t Ferguson being considered?

Of course, he may well be. Moshiri may be giving Big Dunc a trial over the next few weeks to see how he fares with the squad that Benitez left behind after he was sacked on Sunday.

If Ferguson does well – again – then it’s a no-brainer to hire him, surely?

In other Everton news, a Blues shareholder is seemingly at odds with Moshiri over Rooney.
