Yannick Bolasie reacts to Duncan Ferguson taking charge at Everton
Yannick Bolasie reacted to the news yesterday (19 January) that Duncan Ferguson is to take temporary charge at Everton by identifying three key elements the Scot brings.
The former striker has been named as caretaker manager for the upcoming games as the club looks for a replacement for Rafael Benitez, who was sacked after the loss against Norwich City.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, the former Goodison flyer Bolasie wrote: “Passion desire & commitment #BigDunc”.
Popular appointment
The atmosphere around the club has deteriorated to such a level this season that the decision to put the coach back in caretaker charge will be one of the most popular moves that have been made for some time.
Various former Toffees figures have touted the ex-Newcastle and Rangers man as the best option currently, and Bolasie’s reaction shows why.
Too much stock is often put into intangibles like passion and desire in favour of tactical planning and other technical elements of management.

But motivation is undoubtedly important when the problems have become all-encompassing as they have at Everton currently.
Popularity and good will only goes so far however, and attentions only need to be turned to David Unsworth’s second spell as caretaker boss following the sacking of Ronald Koeman, where the Englishman only managed two wins in eight games with five defeats.
But Ferguson produced better results in his previous stint as temporary boss, going unbeaten in four matches whilst beating Frank Lampard’s Chelsea and drawing with both Manchester United and Everton.
So while he is of course a managerial novice, there are perhaps signs there is more to his style than simply force of personality, and he has been at the club in a coaching capacity since 2014, so he has been able to learn under numerous managers in that time.
Whether that is definitely a positive or not is up for debate since the lack of success in that time has seen all of those managers move on, but as assistant manager to the only boss to leave of his own accord in Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti he has experience beside a top level name.
DR Congo international Bolasie was a popular acquisition on Merseyside but a bad ligament injury a matter of months after his move ruined his career at the club.
In other Everton news, the club have reportedly entered talks to appoint this PL legend.
