Duncan Ferguson sets the record straight over his Everton future
Everton caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson has moved to confirm his future at the football club ahead of this weekend’s clash with Aston Villa.
The 50-year-old Scotsman was appointed in temporary charge after Rafael Benitez was sacked on Sunday (16 January) and it seems that it will only be temporary despite some fans wishing it was more permanent.
In his press conference on Thursday, Ferguson confirmed that he will only be in charge of these upcoming fixtures with talks ongoing over a new boss at Goodison Park.

“That is absolutely right. That is my brief,” Ferguson said when questioned about his future.
“I’ll only be in charge for the upcoming games. The club are in a process of going through their candidates.
“They will go through that process and I am sure they will get the best man for the job.”
A shame, but no surprise
Many Everton fans would love to see Ferguson take the reigns for more than a brief handful of games, just as he did when Marco Silva was sacked in 2019.
He seems to get the most out of his players and instils his passion for the Toffees into the 11 players he selects.

But this second chance at the helm appears to be coming to an end before it has even got going and that might indicate that he doesn’t want to be the manager for more than a few games.
Maybe he thinks he is best as the second in command and would prefer someone else to be the right-hand man of.
Whether he really does take a step back for a new manager to come in or if he gets a few more games, if he can get Everton performing as he did in his three games in charge in 2019, they should be more than safe from those behind them in the fight for relegation.
