Lee Carsley sounded out to join Everton coaching staff if Duncan Ferguson gets permanent job – The Athletic

Lee Carsley has been sounded out about a potential backroom staff role at Everton, according to The Athletic.

It is reported that the current England under-21 manager would only join the Toffees if Duncan Ferguson was to be given the job on a permanent basis.

Ferguson is currently in charge on an interim basis with Leighton Baines alongside him for the clash against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Writing in his latest piece, Greg O’Keeffe shared the latest on potential arrivals at Goodison Park.

“The Athletic understands that former Everton midfielder, and current highly-rated England Under-21 manager, Lee Carsley has also been sounded out about a role alongside Ferguson if the latter were to get the job permanently,” he wrote.

Smart?

If this was to go through, it could finally be something that everyone at Goodison Park could get behind every single week.

Farhad Moshiri will know he needs to get his next appointment spot on, or it will just be another failed experiment – and it is already one too many.

Ferguson knows the club inside and out, so does Baines – those two will do everything in their power to bring the good times back.

Carsley would add another face to the fold with passion for the Blues, having made over 150 appearances for the club in his career.

This would be a smart appointment, but given Carsley hasn’t been with England’s under-21s for that long, it could be a longshot.
