Bill Kenwright in angry clash with Everton supporters after loss v Aston Villa

Video footage has emerged on Twitter which shows Bill Kenwright and angry Everton fans facing off after the loss to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Goodison Park was a hostile place as Duncan Ferguson’s side lost 1-0 to Steven Gerrard’s Villa and tensions spilled over outside the ground after full-time, when shareholder Kenwright was surrounded by fans and police as he tried to get into his car.

It’s hard to hear what Kenwright is saying to the fans in the video clip, as shared by MerseySportLive. However, fans were clearly angry with the Blues chairman, chanting things like “Kenwright and co, it’s time to go”.

Ugly scenes

Kenwright is the chairman and a lot of the blame does lie at his feet. However, he doesn’t have anywhere near the say that Farhad Moshiri does at Goodison Park.

We get the anger, we get the frustration and we get the passion. But throwing bottles at players and confronting an old man after the game isn’t on.

It was good of Kenwright to go and listen to the fans but there were some supporters who probably took things a bit too far in that video clip when it came to showing their anger.

Thankfully, the anger didn’t spill over and the police did well to ensure the peace was kept. But there’s simply no excuse for what happened inside Goodison when Villa scored on Saturday.

Whoever threw that bottle should be banned forever – as should anyone else at any ground who does anything like that.

As we said, we understand the anger. This is an absolute mess.

But people need to show some kind of control.
