Duncan Ferguson speaks out on ‘upbeat’ start as Everton caretaker manager
Duncan Ferguson has shared his thoughts on an ‘upbeat’ first week in charge at Everton.
The former Toffees striker was named caretaker manager on Tuesday (January 18) as the club sought out a long-term appointment.
Ferguson has been impressed with the players’ attitudes since the departure of former manager, Rafa Benitez.

“I think it’s been a good week.” Ferguson said as per Football Daily.
“The players look upbeat, the sessions have gone well, plenty of intensity so yeah, I’m quite happy with the players and the way they have worked through the week.”
Speaking on what he has done differently from his predecessor he said: “I think it’s just a different voice as well, that’s probably the big difference when you lose a manager and somebody else is in speaking.
“You always get a reaction from the players, but I’ve certainly pushed them as hard as I could possibly push them.
“That’s the minimum for me, make sure we keep that intensity.”
The right man in charge
Big Dunc is the perfect short-term solution at Everton. He has bossed the caretaker manager role emphatically before, not losing a game.
It was only four games in charge but the turn around in morale amongst the players and the fans when he took the realm after Marco Silva was sacked was monumental.
He is an Everton legend and the bond he has with the fans will be vital in turning things around at Goodison Park. It is important everyone at the club comes together as one after squabbling amongst each other for far too long.
It will be music to Toffees ears when the 50-year-old talks about intensity, the bare minimum and pushing the players as hard as he possibly can. His genuine love for the club is clear to see and that’s what Farhad Moshiri needs from his next appointment.
A long term appointment shouldn’t be rushed as the club are in safe hands for now with the Scot.
