Everton give interview to serial winner Vitor Pereira

Everton have interviewed former Fenerbahce manager Vitor Pereira over the vacant manager’s position at Goodison Park, according to the Daily Mail.

The 53-year-old was sacked by the Turkish side in December with the club fifth in the Super League but he boasts a highly impressive managerial record.

The Daily Mail believe that Farhad Moshiri wants a forward-thinking manager and Pereira has been identified as a strong candidate for the role.

Moshiri is thought to want a coach who he views as a visionary and that “breathe new life and fresh ideas” into Goodison Park.

Encouraging Statistics

Looking purely at numbers, it wouldn’t be a bad appointment by any stretch of the imagination.

A win percentage of 44 per cent is what saw him sacked from Fenerbahce but that isn’t exactly horrible form.

He spent three years managing in China before that with Shanghai Port FC where he boasted an eye-opening 58 per cent win percentage.

Pereira’s most successful spell though came at Porto where he won two Liga NOS titles as well as two Portuguese Cups between 2011 and 2013.

He was interviewed for the then-vacant manager’s role at Everton in 2013 when he left Porto but he instead chose to head to Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, rather than Merseyside.

He has also won the Greek Super League with Olympiakos and the Chinese Super League with Shanghai.

It all sounds very encouraging but Moshiri needs to get him into the club fast if he wants to bring any new players to the club before the January transfer window closes on the 31st of the month.

Duncan Ferguson is currently in caretaker charge of the team after Rafael Benitez’s sacking last Sunday (16 January).

In other Everton news, a talkSPORT pundit has urged this player to leave his current club and join the Toffees.
