Everton set to appoint David Prentice as communications manager

David Prentice will next month arrive at Goodison Park as Everton communications manager, according to Sportsmail.

The journalist, who has written about the Toffees for more than 35 years, is a well-known figure in the city and beyond thanks to his time with the Liverpool Echo.

Everton have made the appointment on the media front, and Prentice is expected to start work in February, and while Mike Keegan describes it as “one step in a positive direction”, the Daily Mail journalist believes he “may well have his work cut out in his new role.”

Good move

Being Echo’s Head of Regional Sport Agenda Team, the Liverpool-based journo boasts of a lot of experience.

Everton need a new manager right now after parting ways with Rafa Benitez, and while there are doubts over their chances of making the right appointment, they are at least getting one right in the communications department.

Prentice has worked as Head of Sport, Deputy Sports Editor, Chief Sports Writer, Everton correspondent and Tranmere reporter, covering the Olympics, World Cups and Champions League finals, and he is also an author of the best-selling “A Grand Old Team to Report.”

Sky Sports’ Alan Myers was once the Director of Communications at Everton between August 2013 and March 2014, and despite spending just eight months in the role, the fans continue to crave for someone like him in the position.

With Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright not particularly impressing the fans with most of their decisions, bringing in the popular Prentice could be one of the best decisions they have made in years.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
