Simon Jordan insists Everton fans cannot blame Bill Kenwright for current mess
Simon Jordan has slammed Everton fans for demanding Bill Kenwright’s exit during and after weekend’s loss to Aston Villa at Goodison Park.
The Toffees chairman has been in the position since 2004, but he was asked to vacate the seat by furious supporters on Saturday, and the former Crystal Palace chairman believes he is the wrong target, hitting out at the criticism on talkSPORT on Monday.
Everton parted ways with Rafa Benitez a week ago and put Duncan Ferguson in interim charge, but his second stint in charge of the Blues started with a 1-0 loss on Merseyside.
Jordan said on talkSPORT: “It’s unfathomable to blame Bill Kenwright for Moshiri and his choices.
“Moshiri is a big boy with big bags of money. If he wants to bring in people like Kia Joorabchian in around him and take their influence, if he wants to curtail… if we’re to believe that… Kenwright and others, then who do you blame?
“You don’t blame the minions for Boris Johnson’s running of his country. You blame Boris Johnson.
Danny Murphy replied: “I don’t think Moshiri has listened to Bill at all.
Jordan continued: “Neither do I, then don’t take it out on Bill at all.”
Has to take some blame
Kenwright has been on the Everton board since 1989, becoming the second-largest shareholder in 1999 and the largest stakeholder in the club in 2004.
He now has just 1.72% of the shares at Goodison Park and has remained there for long to share some of the blames.
While Moshiri continues to call the shots, the Blues would not be where they are today if their chairman made some different calls in his early days in charge of the club.
Whatever has happened to Everton is a result of a number of decisions from two to three decades ago, and Kenwright has been there all along.
It is why the fans want him gone. While that may or may not change anything, he is culpable for the current mess too, and he needs to hold his hands up.

It will take a couple of years for things to change at the club, and they may need to get new owners first.
At the moment, Moshiri has continued to pump in more money into the club – an indication that he is not leaving anytime soon.
The same thing can be said of Kenwright too, and fans can only hope things get better.
Recruiting a manager that can deliver the results would be one way to start.
