‘Down to three’ – Jason Burt shares final shortlist for Everton manager role

Everton have narrowed their manager search ‘down to three’ candidates – Frank Lampard, Vitor Pereira and Duncan Ferguson according to The Telegraph.

The Toffees sacked Rafa Benitez earlier this month following a 2-1 defeat to Norwich, which left the club in a relegation scrap after just one win in 13 games.

He was replaced on an temporary basis by club legend Duncan Ferguson, who oversaw the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa that followed.

But according to Jason Burt of The Telegraph, the Blues have narrowed their search down to just three names and Ferguson is part of that alongside Lampard and Pereira.

According to their report, Lampard had a second interview with the club on Thursday [Jan 27] while Ferguson and Pereira will have theirs on Friday [Jan 28] with a decision expected the same day.

Opportunity

For Ferguson, this final interview without a doubt is the biggest opportunity of his career.

A club legend undoubtedly, he has the backing of the fans already but the defeat to Villa showed that his lack of experience could be a huge factor in the remainder of the season.

Everton are in a relegation scrap whether they like it or not and they need all the help they can get, so all these little things count.

Lampard would bring some top level experience but not a lot, while Pereira has already attracted the wrath of Blues fans after a bizarre television interview where he discussed the job.

Ex-Chelsea man Lampard is seen as the front-runner currently, but if Ferguson is in the race he always has a chance. We don’t have long to wait for an answer now, seemingly.
