Everton duo Doucoure and Delph side-lined for at least four weeks

Everton duo Abdoulaye Doucoure and Fabian Delph are expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks after sustaining injuries.

Doucoure, 29, was forced off with a groin issue during the Blues’ Premier League loss to Aston Villa on Saturday (January 22).

Due to the severity of the injury, the former Watford man is to undergo rehabilitation at Finch Farm.

Delph, 32, suffered a thigh injury whilst training this week and is already receiving treatment from the Toffees medical team.

Dominic King took to his personal Twitter to share his thoughts on the double blow for Everton.

“Abdoulaye Doucoure (injured on Saturday) and Fabian Delph (injured in training) out for ”a minimum” of four weeks.” He wrote.

“Everton have been screaming out for a central midfielder in this window.

“No suggestion a manager will be appointed today to address this matter. It’s a beyond a joke”

Bigger issues

As if the Blues weren’t going through a hard enough time, the absence of two of their key senior players in the same position has surfaced another issue at the club.

Including Tom Davies who is out with a hamstring problem, the Toffees are missing almost their entire centre of midfield.

It is absolutely vital that Allan and Andre Gomes remain fit during this time with them being the only two fit experienced centre midfielders.

Everton

That is no sure thing either with Gomes’ fitness status unpredictable to say the least during his time at Goodison.

Much like most of Everton’s problems they are facing at the moment, this could have been resolved with better planning by senior members of the backroom staff.

It is no secret that the Blues have needed back up in the centre of midfield all season, but the club have completely failed to act – what a surprise.

There is still time left in the window but with the onus being on bringing in a new manager, whether there is time for any more players to be brought in is doubtful.
