Everton want to sign Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea before 31 January deadline

Everton are interested in a last-gasp swoop to sign Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Friday [28 January, 83] that amid Everton’s interest, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wants to keep the 26-year-old at Stamford Bridge.

The Daily Mail add on their website that the Toffees are eyeing up Loftus-Cheek after it was confirmed on Thursday [27 January] that Abdoulaye Doucoure and Fabian Delph are set to spend four weeks out injured.

Yaya Toure-esque

It’s a bit of a surprise that Loftus-Cheek is still on the books at Stamford Bridge because he’s 26-years-old now and has never been a regular starter for Chelsea.

However, Tuchel seems to have brought the best out of the England international since his arrival in West London a year ago.

Loftus-Cheek has played 20 times in all competitions for Chelsea this season, assisting three goals in the process.

He’s started seven times in the Premier League and Chelsea have only lost on one of those occasions when he’s been in Tuchel’s starting line-up.

Tuchel, as quoted by Sky Sports on 3 November, has hailed Loftus-Cheek for “strong” and dominating midfield performances for Chelsea.

Rio Ferdinand, speaking on BT Sport on 2 November, compared the former Fulham loanee to ex-Manchester City and Barcelona star Yaya Toure.

“I love him,” Ferdinand said. “I’ve always known about him from friends at Chelsea.

“He’s a fantastic specimen, first and foremost. I liken him, in full flow, to someone like Yaya Toure.”

You can understand why Tuchel would want to keep hold of Loftus-Cheek but Everton really could do with him after the injury news that broke yesterday.

We have no idea who is sorting the transfers at Goodison now and we honestly don’t expect anything to happen.

In other Everton news, this manager is jetting into Liverpool for talks with the Blues today.
