Lampard wants Everton to hijack Crystal Palace swoop for van de Beek

Everton want to hijack Crystal Palace’s move for Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper report in their print edition on Sunday [30 January, page 73] that incoming new manager Frank Lampard was to make the most of the loan market before the January transfer window slams shut tomorrow (31 January).

It is understood that van de Beek, 24, is an option while Tottenham’s Dele Alli is also high on Lampard’s wish list. Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also said to be an option.

Quickfire business

It is baffling that Everton left their managerial appointment to this point in the transfer window.

Rafa Benitez was sacked two weeks ago and with the way things were going, you’d imagine that Farhad Moshiri would have had some named mooted to replace him beforehand.

Lampard is someone who was linked almost straight away and he’d already been interviewed before further talks were held in London on Friday.

Why has it taken two weeks to hire someone who was obviously going to be in the running and is arguably the better option of those seriously linked?

Everton now have fewer than 48 hours to get Lampard properly hired and to also sign players who can help lead the club away from the Premier League’s relegation battle.

Netherlands midfielder van de Beek should be a good signing but we have reservations about Alli, whose been on a downward spiral.

Loftus-Cheek has done well at Chelsea this season, so he wouldn’t be a bad option and Lampard also knows him well.
