Dele Alli medical now underway at Everton, Frank Lampard has been in talks – Romano
Everton are on the verge of signing Dele Alli with the Tottenham midfielder now undergoing a medical with the Merseyside club, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing via his personal Twitter account at 05:49pm on deadline day (31 January), the Guardian journalist reported that the next step for Alli, 25, is to sign a contract to join the Toffees permanently from Spurs.
It is understood that new manager Frank Lampard was in “direct contact” with Alli this morning with the transfer now close to completion.
Alli isn’t the only player set to join Everton today with Romano earlier reporting that Donny van de Beek has agreed to join on loan from Manchester United.
What a day
Lampard, Alli and van de Beek. If you go back a week or so, could any Evertonian have predicted a deadline day like this?
We’re still really uneasy with the way the club is being run by Farhad Moshiri and we’re very aware of the fact that the club is skating on thin ice in terms of Financial Fair Play.
But these signings are definitely ones to be excited about.

Alli and van de Beek have had their respective issues at Tottenham and Man United but you get the feeling that a move away from those clubs could unleash them a little bit.
For example, look at Jesse Lingard last January when he left Manchester United on loan to join West Ham. He almost led the Hammers to a spot in the Champions League.
You get the feeling that Alli and van de Beek both need fresh starts because we’ve seen earlier in their careers just how good they can be.
The jury will be out on them two and on Lampard from not only Evertonians but also the neutrals and the mainstream media.
Let’s hope they can prove a lot of people wrong.
In other Everton news, another medical is now done.
