Dele Alli ‘saga’ almost over, Everton will announce signing from Tottenham within hours

Everton will officially announce Dele Alli’s arrival from Tottenham “in the coming hours”, according to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Writing via his personal Twitter account two and a half hours before the transfer deadline at 11pm tonight [31 January], Romano reported that Alli’s saga is “almost over” with Everton close to completing the paperwork to sign the 25-year-old midfielder.

Romano, adding in his trademark “here we go” catchphrase, added the official statement will be released “soon”.

Superb business

It’s been a great day to be an Everton supporter – and we don’t get to say that very often.

Alli is going to be the second new signing of the day after Donny van de Beek arrived on loan at Goodison Park from Manchester United – and also the third arrival after Frank Lampard was hired as manager.

You have to say, amid all the tension and hostility and anger in the last two weeks, this is a good way to right some wrongs.

Not all wrongs have been righted. It’ll take a hell of a lot more for that to happen and we remain really unsatisfied with how the club is being run.

We were never in favour of Lampard being hired until he was among the last three candidates for the job, especially as there are some top managers on the continent who would’ve been good shouts.

Farhad Moshiri needs to put together a board at Goodison Park that knows football and that also has their heart in Everton Football Club.

Get rid of Kia Joorabchian and stop letting Alisher Usmanov have a say in the decision-making at Goodison.

Do that, and we’ll be happy and we’ll surely see an up-turn in our fortunes.

In other Everton news, Alan Myers claims a player could still exit Goodison before 11pm tonight.
