Stan Collymore reacts as Everton confirm signing of Donny van de Beek on deadline day

Stan Collymore has been left stunned that new Everton loan signing Donny van de Beek hasn’t had more opportunities.

There was big hype around the Dutchman after he arrived at Manchester United from Ajax, but he was never given the chance at Old Trafford.

Frank Lampard swooped on deadline day to bring Van de Beek to Goodison Park, where he will finally get that opportunity in the Premier League.

Writing in his column for the Mirror in their print edition (01 January), Collymore was thrilled by the business.

“Donny van de Beek didn’t become a bad player or bad trainer overnight,” he wrote. “So, it has always perplexed me that he has never been given the chance he deserved at Manchester United.

“If a club goes out of their way to sign a player then they should give him time and opportunity to prove himself.

“Van de Beek can play a bit, he can graft a bit, and Everton need someone who is champing at the bit to play, so it’s a good move.”

Perfect.

This is a match made in heaven for all parties.

Van de Beek was desperate for consistent football, he has made that very clear throughout his time in Manchester.

Everton were crying out for midfield reinforcements, with Tom Davies, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Fabian Delph all out injured.

And on top of that, Lampard being announced as our new manager should give Van de Beek huge hope that he will be mentored by the best.

There aren’t many better midfielders to come out of the Premier League than our manager, and hopefully, he can harness all of that knowledge to not only Van de Beek, but to Dele Alli as well.

Let’s hope all of those concerned get off to a flyer in Merseyside, this is a new era for everyone involved with the club.
