Five Everton players could face being sold in the summer – Greg O’Keeffe

Everton had a very productive January transfer window despite spending most of it without a manager in place at Goodison Park.

Five new players entered through the Finch Farm door and Frank Lampard, the new Toffees’ boss, has a squad of highly talented individuals in front of him.

That squad however is now almost too big and they may be looking to offload some of their assets in the summer.

The Athletic’s Greg O’Keeffe has had his say on who he thinks will leave Merseyside in the next transfer window.

In a response to a question during a live Q&A on The Athletic, O’Keeffe said: “Possibly Tosun, Holgate, Kenny, Iwobi or Delph. Should add that’s just my guess.”

Can’t stay forever

The five names mentioned by O’Keeffe are by no means the best players in the Everton squad nor are they irreplaceable should they leave.

Mason Holgate may be the one who you could argue should stay given his useful versatility and youthfulness but even he wouldn’t be terribly missed if he was to leave the club.

Cenk Tosun was the subject of a bid from Hull City of the Championship, but he turned the opportunity down to stay at Goodison Park [Gokmen Ozcan, Fanatik].

Jonjoe Kenny has played a fair amount of late but that is more down to a lack of a better alternative with Seamus Coleman ageing and Nathan Patterson only just arriving at the club.

Alex Iwobi and Fabian Delph are no more than substitutes when the squad is at full strength and the wages that they are earning while doing very little on the pitch is hurting the club.

It wouldn’t be unsurprising or a worry if even more headed for the exit in the summer and the Lampard revolution can really kick into gear.
