Paul Merson raves about Everton new signing Donny van de Beek

Paul Merson has suggested that Donny van de Beek is a good signing for Everton after arriving on deadline day.

The 24-year-old joined the Toffees on loan from Manchester United in the January transfer window.

The Toffees, however, don’t have the option to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

Merson has suggested that he is impressed with the player’s attitude who never moaned despite the fact that he hasn’t been given enough chances.

The Sky Sports pundit feels he needs a run of games and hopes that he does well at Goodison Park.

“Donny van de Beek just hasn’t got started in England,” wrote Merson in his column for Sky Sports.

“I feel for him, I really do. I really like his attitude. He has never moaned, he’s always there and you never see him throwing his toys out the pram.

“I just hope he does well, and he’s given a chance finally because I think there’s a top player in there. He just needs to let it come out and he needs a run of games to be able to do that. He doesn’t need one game here or one game there or 10 minutes here or 10 minutes there in a game where it is a hiding to nothing.

“For Everton, it’s a really good signing. Dominic Calvert-Lewin comes short, Dele Alli goes in behind and Van de Beek will find him. I think we could see that happen quite a few times in the coming weeks and before the end of the season.”

Smart move

Van de Beek was initially targeted in the summer transfer window but the Toffees couldn’t secure a deal at that time.

His situation didn’t improve at Old Trafford. He has managed only 69 minutes of Premier League football, failing to start a single game.

He has started in three Champions League games, and played in a couple of cup games as well.

Everton

At Everton, Frank Lampard may be expected to give him regular opportunities and use him in his favoured no 10 role.

With Dele Alli also in the side, it will be interesting to see how Lampard accommodates all his attacking players.

Van de Beek will look to resurrect his career and make the best use of the loan spell.

The quality is there, and it’s up to him to prove a point.

In other Everton news, the club are reportedly working to sign this European legend.
