Paul Merson says Donny van de Beek can ‘relax’ at Everton
Paul Merson has suggested that Donny van de Beek can recapture his best form at Everton.
The 24-year-old joined the Toffees on loan from Manchester United on Monday’s deadline day.
The Dutchman has barely featured in the Premier League this season, managing less than 70 minutes of action.

Merson has predicted that he will be successful at Goodison Park, suggesting that the environment at the club will help him to relax.
“I think Manchester United have missed a trick here – he’s a very good player and I think he’ll be very successful at Everton,” Merson wrote for SportsKeeda.
“Frank Lampard can get Van de Beek’s career going. He was a top player at Ajax but fell behind the eight-ball at Manchester United.
“The environment at Everton might suit him. They’re nowhere near as massive a club in the Premier League, and the expectations won’t be as big either.
“He’ll be able to relax and play the football he played at Ajax that got him to Manchester United in the first place.”
Big mistake
It’s quite the opposite. If anything, Van de Beek simply cannot afford to relax. He will be eager to prove a point. More than anything else, he will be hungry to play regular games.
At 24, he shouldn’t be rotting the bench week in week out. While the pressure at United is huge, at Everton it is equally challenging.
However, Van de Beek probably has joined at a crucial time, even on a loan deal, where along with the player, the club is also looking to make a fresh start.

After a wretched run of form this season under Rafael Benitez, the fan base has become volatile and the atmosphere has become toxic.
Frank Lampard is hoping to bring stability to the club and unite the fans once again. Van de Beek could play a crucial part in this rebuilding project, which could see him returning to his best and recapturing the form he showed at Ajax.
At least, Merson is very confident that he will be successful at the Merseyside club. It’s a strong statement from him, considering he hasn’t played much this season.
