Frank Lampard must understand key Everton issue for Everton success

Former Chelsea teammate Glen Johnson has urged Frank Lampard to find out the truth behind Rafa Benitez’ dismissal for success at Everton.

The Spaniard was sacked at the end of January just 6 months into his reign at Goodison Park as the Blues edged closer to the relegation zone on a weekly basis.

Johnson has back Lampard to turn the Toffees form around but in order to do that he must get to the bottom of his previous manager’s saga in an attempt to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

“I think they’ll [the fans] be happy,” Johnson told Metro.

“I’m quite surprised how it didn’t really work out with Rafa to be honest, I thought they were really going to kick on because the club was in a good position.

“They’ve got a good squad and signed some really good players, I thought Rafa would really have a field day there and to be fair they did at the start, they looked great.

“I’d like to find out why, I don’t know whether they all fell out with Rafa or what but they’re good players so as long as they’re enjoying their football then that should be showing on the pitch.

“But for whatever reason, it wasn’t so if I was Lamps I’d be keen to find out why and then just get them working hard together and enjoying their football and the results will follow.”

The truth is, Rafa was doomed before he even entered the building at Finch Farm.

His Liverpool connections were simply too much for the majority of the Toffees fan base to deal with and when the results began to drop, it was game over.

He did start well but the 61-year-old was hindered by injuries to key players which took its toll on the whole team but ultimately, he was the wrong man for the job.

It wouldn’t be the worst idea for Lampard to do some digging to find out what went wrong so he can avoid repeating the same mistake, but the former Derby County manager is a completely different kettle of fish.

He is a young ambitious manager who can take Everton to the next level. This appointment has lifted the fanbase with a long-term plan looking to be in place at the club rather than just bringing in any old household name.
