Everton FA Cup victory ‘a positive start’ under Frank Lampard – BBC pundit

Everton began life under Frank Lampard in emphatic fashion against Brentford as they put four past the Bees on their way to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Goals from Yerry Mina, Richarlison, Mason Holgate and Andros Townsend saw Goodison Park bouncing for the first time in far too long.

It was a tremendous all-around performance from the Toffees who were far too much for their Premier League rivals to cope with as they ran out 4-1 winners.

Everton

BBC pundit and former Premier League footballer Jobi McAnuff saw plenty to be happy about for Evertonians and thinks Lampard is a good fit for the club right now.

“It’s a squad that is massively underachieving with the quality that they have got but I feel like it’s a good fit and he’s going to play the type of football that Everton fans do want to see,” McAnuff said on the BBC’s Football Daily Podcast.

“That clearly wasn’t the case under Rafa (Benitez) so I think it’s going to be a decent partnership. I still feel there is a lot of improving to do but it’s a positive start.”

More like Everton

Under both Carlo Ancelotti and more recently Rafael Benitez, the Toffees have always seemed to be submissive in games far too often.

Everton

That isn’t, and never has been, the Everton way and Lampard looks to be rectifying this with a highly dominant display on Merseyside.

Everton had 14 shots towards David Raya’s goal on Saturday with five hitting the target, four of which went past the Spaniard.

Brentford meanwhile could muster just four attempts on goal, one of which being the penalty converted by Ivan Toney on 53 minutes.

Everything about the performance and the atmosphere at Goodison Park was just much more like Everton and that is a good sign ahead of a number of crucial Premier League ties.

If the crowd can get up for the really big games, Everton are a scary prospect for any opposition in the country.

In other Everton news, Stan Collymore thinks this is now “last-chance saloon” for one particular Toffees star.
