View: Dan Ashworth could have been the perfect fit for Everton

Dan Ashworth could have been the final piece of the puzzle and Everton should have moved for him while they still had the chance.

Ashworth today (February 7) resigned from his position as Brighton’s technical director to take a similar position at another Premier League club, likely to be Newcastle, according to The Athletic.

The Blues were linked with the former Brighton man [90min] following the departure of Marcel Brands in December and will regret not making a move earlier for the 50-year-old.

Final piece of the puzzle

Ashworth would have been a perfect fit for Everton.

Farhad Moshiri has never been shy to open his chequebook but unfortunately for the Blues, the wrong person has always been spending the money.

The chop and change nature of the Toffees managers has left the squad looking rather mismatched.

Brands clearly wasn’t the man to outline a winning formula for the Blues with his tenure as director of football nothing short of embarrassing.

The club needs to look at what other Premier League clubs are doing in terms of structure but more importantly learn from their mistakes and put a proper plan in place for the future of the club.

Everton

It’s all good bringing in Lampard and giving him time and money to do the best job possible but Everton football club need to have an identity itself, with everyone involved in the club moulding to it.

Ashworth was pivotal in Brighton’s success since joining the Seagulls in 2019 with his hard work behind the scenes enabling Graham Potter and the players to focus on the football.

They sit ninth in the Premier League with very limited resources, imagine what he could have done with the Blues.

This needs to serve as a wake-up call for Moshiri and co who still have a lot of work to do to turn things around at Everton.
