Allan Saint-Maximin aims dig at Everton fan on Twitter after Newcastle United win

Allan Saint-Maximin has hit out at an Everton fan who called him an “average player” after Newcastle United beat the Blues 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Saint-Maximin, 24, was one of the best players on the pitch as the Magpies beat Frank Lampard’s side, forcing them within three points of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

After the game, Saint-Maximin took to Twitter to respond to an Evertonian who said in January that he deserves to play in the Championship.

In a swipe back at the fan, plus a dig at Everton, the French forward simply wrote on his personal Twitter account that “‘average’ was enough for today, though”.

Embarrassing

Well, we’ve got to hold our hands up and admit that Saint-Maximin was right.

Newcastle weren’t exactly anything special on Tuesday night but they made winning against us look easy – because we were that bad.

Both of the own goals were comical – but not half as comical as our defending for Ryan Fraser’s goal in the second half.

Newcastle then scored a free-kick through Kieran Trippier after bad positioning from the wall and slow-to-react goalkeeping from Jordan Pickford.

Everton

It was woeful, in all senses, and we gave Newcastle absolutely nothing to worry about when going forward.

Lampard has his work cut out to stop this team from getting relegated but we’re still not 100 per cent convinced he was the right hire.

Out of the final three candidates, he was the best. But that’s hardly an achievement for a man coming up against a managerial rookie in Duncan Ferguson and a journeyman who was sacked by Fenerbahce in Vitor Pereira.

In other Everton news, Neil Lennon was furious with an incident that involved a Newcastle player against the Toffees.
