Sky Sports pundit singles out Andre Gomes at Everton since Frank Lampard arrival

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has showered praise on Everton midfielder Andre Gomes since the arrival of Frank Lampard.

The ex-Toffees talisman insisted that those around him have to lend him the ball and let him shine, something he did against Brentford last week.

Gomes will be pushing for another start against Leeds this afternoon but will be pushed by Donny Van de Beek and Dele Alli.

“He has played excellent,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“A lot of people say that’s the best they’ve seen him play [v Brentford] since the first time he came on loan, so that tells you, he’s a ball player, very comfortable with the ball at his feet, but again, the other players around him have to lend it to him and let him shine.

“That is what he’s done.”

Campbell is spot on to single out Gomes, who has been excellent on the ball.

The Portuguese maestro may have finally found the right manager in Lampard who will make space for him in midfield to dictate possession throughout.

A regular on Sky Sports, Campbell was at the Brentford game and was clearly impressed with what he saw.

Like everyone, though, a response is needed against Leeds after that defeat up at Newcastle, and let’s hope it happens.
