Alan Hutton raves about Everton midfielder Donny van de Beek

Everton secured a 3-0 victory in the Premier League against Leeds United on Saturday (12 February) at Goodison Park.

Donny van de Beek was outstanding during the game and BBC pundit Alan Hutton, who was commentating on the tie at Goodison, was heavily impressed with him.

Hutton has suggested that it genuinely baffles him why the Dutchman wasn’t given a chance at Manchester United.

Van de Beek joined the Toffees during the January transfer window on loan, and he impressed in his first Premier League start under Lampard.

He said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “I do not understand why Donny van de Beek didn’t play at Man Utd. He has been everywhere today. It genuinely baffles me.”

Everywhere

It was a terrific performance from the former Ajax midfielder.

The energy, guile and drive he showed during the game provided the spark for a fantastic win, which was arguably Everton’s best this season.

The 24-year-old made as many as four tackles and one interception during the game. He made 40 passes with an impressive 87.5% accuracy, as per Whoscored.

Van de Beek was used sparingly at Manchester United, and to be fair, this was his first Premier League start this season. He was eager to make a point and he did it in some style.

There were other notable performances too. Anthony Gordon was top-quality during the game while Richarlison was superb as well.

The defence stayed resolute and it hardly allowed Leeds to create clear-cut chances.

Everton have moved five points clear of the relegation zone, and it’s a huge sigh of relief for them.
