Everton bench applauded Donny van de Beek in win v Leeds United

Donny van de Beek was applauded by the Everton bench for kicking the ball out of play in the 3-0 win against Leeds United.

According to The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland, the Manchester United loanee alleviated pressure posed by Marcelo Bielsa’s men by doing that.

The Toffees coaches and players knew how important that intervention was and let the Dutchman know in no uncertain terms what they thought of his contribution.

This was his first Premier League start for Frank Lampard and the manager duly praised him after full time.

He said, “Donny linked the play and gave us a sense of confidence on the ball. That’s exactly what I brought him here to do. I think he can do different roles and that’s why I moved so quickly to get him when I came in.

“I’m a big admirer. I know he’s got the talent to link and get us through the lines of the pitch with his passing. He’s got the work ethic needed in that role. I know he can do higher, he’s a goal threat too.”

Stunning display

While this may be only one game, van de Beek proved why he’s starting to silence his critics.

Many thought he was too soft to play in the Premier League or that the intensity of the competition would stifle him.

However, he has proven that against one of the best pressing team, how he managed to find gaps and be an important player for the Toffees on the transition.

Once Lampard finds a way to make him play closer to the penalty area, we may see an even better version of van de Beek.

Hopefully, Dele Alli and the Dutchman can thrive in the same eleven as both are game changers who have the ability to win matches singlehandedly.
