Micah Richards accuses Jamie Carragher of being Everton or Liverpool ‘when he wants to be’
Micah Richards has been left confused about Jamie Carragher’s Everton history when he said the ex-Liverpool defender played for his “boyhood club” on Sky Sports.
The record Premier League appearance maker for Liverpool famously comes from an Everton supporting family and followed the Toffees as a child.
But his Sky Sports colleague mixed up the two before accusing Carragher of being whichever club suits him at the time, amid cries of laughter from the pair of former England defenders.
Speaking on Sky Sports Super Sunday, in a clip posted on the channel’s Twitter account, former Manchester City man Richards said: “You’ve played for your boyhood club”.
Carragher replied “not sure” before the pair bust out laughing, prompting host Dave Jones to suggest: “You need to check your history on that one Micah.”
Finally, Richards said: “He’s Everton when he wants to be and he’s Liverpool when he wants to be”.
Not an easy mistake
As one of the biggest local rivalries in English if not European football, it is hard to mix up which side of it someone is on.
The ex-Liverpool vice-captain has long been accused of maintaining a secret love for the Goodison club throughout his playing career at Anfield, including accusations that he would hide an Everton tattoo when playing by wearing long sleeves.
While that theory was subsequently debunked, the Sky Sports pundit suggested that he had at one point had such a tattoo somewhere else when he responded to a fan’s question on Twitter recently by saying: “No, we all got our tattoos taken off.” (Daily Star)

Whether fans on the Blue half of Merseyside would want to claim the long-time Red these days is another matter entirely, after he featured in numerous derbies for Liverpool and was a big part of the success the club had during his time.
Richards is sure not to forget again in a hurry unless Carragher really has told him otherwise in private.
In other Everton news, Anthony Gordon has raved about is “love” for one teammate following the big win over Leeds.
