Rio Ferdinand shares what he has heard about Everton midfielder Donny van de Beek

Everton sealed a 3-0 win against Leeds United on Saturday [12 February] in the Premier League where Donny van de Beek was outstanding during the game.

Rio Ferdinand has suggested on the FIVE podcast that Van de Beek has lifted the levels at the club training-wise.

The 24-year-old failed to make an impact at Manchester United and joined the Toffees on loan in January.

Ferdinand said about Van de Beek: “I have been speaking to a few people at the club. They said that he has lifted the levels training-wise. Great lad, first and foremost.

“He’s that good. They must be mad. Unbelievable Man Utd.”

Superb addition

Frank Lampard wasted no time in signing the Dutch midfielder on loan on the transfer deadline day.

The midfielder made his first Premier League start of the season, and made a big impact.

He made 40 passes with 87.5% accuracy, and played out one key pass, according to Whoscored.

He also made four tackles and one interception to cap off a fantastic performance for his new club.

But more than stats or anything else, what’s good to hear is his impact on the training ground.

He has lifted the levels in the training ground, and already we can see some improvement straight away.

Van de Beek is a quality player but he didn’t get proper opportunities at United. He will be looking to make the best use of his loan spell, and Everton will reap the benefits if he does well.

After getting the first Premier League win in the Lampard era, the Toffees must look to maintain their momentum when they face Southampton next at St Mary’s.
