Frank Lampard drools over Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny

Frank Lampard has showered heaps of praise on Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny following his impressive performance against Leeds United.

The Toffees boss has hailed him as a “quality” player who is technically very good.

Lampard has praised his defensive skills and has suggested that the 24-year-old has impressed him heavily in training.

“I love Jonjoe’s attitude in training every day… he loves Everton and always wants to train and do better. Any session and any drill you do, he wants to give everything,” said Lampard to Everton Tv.

“And he is a quality player, [good with] both feet and technically very good for a defender.

“He will give you everything, positionally he was great, in terms of holding his position, then jumping out and making tackles at the right time.

“Jonjoe is perfect for any game – but especially when we needed discipline and effort and toughness, and he showed those things. I was really pleased with him.”

New-found belief

Prior to the game against Leeds, Kenny had made only four appearances in the Premier League.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic and failed to make an impact.

Under Rafa Benitez, he was rarely used as well. Even when Seamus Coleman got injured, he hardly got a game.

However, it seems, he has managed to make a strong impact on Lampard.

The new manager has injected a new belief among players and he is willing to give everyone a chance to show their mettle.

Kenny hasn’t probably heard such encouraging words from any manager in a long while, and he would be bubbling with confidence with what his manager has just said.

It also reflects on Lampard’s man-management skills. In truth, Kenny is not someone who is technically outstanding, but Lampard can use him as an effective team player.

If he can give his best on the pitch, that’s all Lampard can ask for.
