Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin wanted by CSKA Moscow – report

Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin is a target for Russian club CSKA Moscow ahead of the February transfer deadline, according to Metaratings.

Gbamin signed for the Toffees back in 2019 in a £25million deal from Mainz, but has suffered tremendously with injuries and made just eight appearances for the club in two-and-a-half years.

With Frank Lampard bringing in Donny Van de Beek and Dele Alli on the same day he was appointed manager, the Ivorian’s future at the club is up in the air.

It’s now being reported in Russia that CSKA Moscow are keen to bring his Merseyside hell to an end by signing the 26-year-old Ivory Coast midfielder this month.

The Russian transfer window closes on February 22nd and Metaratings say that they ‘will try to sign’ Gbamin before the deadline passes.

Time to go

You wouldn’t have to look too far to find a Toffees fan who has probably forgotten that Gbamin even plays for the club at this point.

There was great expectation around his transfer when he signed, with the club spending big on a young player to try and bolster up their midfield options.

Unfortunately for them the deal has turned out to be nothing but a disaster as he suffered with several serious injuries and at this point it makes sense for all parties to part ways and go in a different direction.

The club have moved past the need for Gbamin to be fit and present in their midfield, while Gbamin is clearly in desperate need of a new environment to get his career back on track.

If a deal can be agreed between now and that deadline then it would be in everyone’s best interests, so Everton shouldn’t stand in his way.
