James Rodriguez admits he wanted to stay at Everton for ‘much longer’
James Rodriguez has claimed that he wanted to stay at Everton for “much longer” but departed because of Rafa Benitez.
The Columbian came to the Toffees under previous Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti but soon fell out of favour following the Italian’s departure.
Rodriguez has since signed for Qatar Stars League side Al-Rayyan SC but spoke very highly of the Blues on Twitch.

He said: “I would have liked to have been at Everton for much longer. It’s a spectacular club, the fans are incredible, but I ran into a coach who didn’t want to count on me. I wanted to be there.
“Unfortunately, the coach didn’t want to count on me”.
Nonsense
I don’t buy it. If these players loved Everton and adored the fans as much as they claim they do after leaving, they would have stayed. It’s as simple as that.

It is a major cop out to essentially force a move and then come out and declare your love for the club. It doesn’t matter whether you fall out with the current manager or whatever excuses are made, if he thought that highly of the club, he wouldn’t have left barely a year into his contract.
Lucas Digne got a similar response from Blues fans that were lapping up his nonsense. He, again, blamed Benitez rather than taking responsibility for his actions.
You could definitely look at Benitez as the problem as several similar issues come as no coincidence, but this has been going on long before the Spaniard created an even more toxic atmosphere at the club than before he joined.
The fans need to wake up to the players who genuinely want to be at the club and those talking rubbish.
In other Everton news, Everton have been tipped to move for three Chelsea players by Dean Jones.
