Richard Keys compares Everton attacker Anthony Gordon to Steven Gerrard

Richard Keys has waxed lyrical over Everton attacker Anthony Gordon and has compared him to former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

The 20-year-old has improved leaps and bounds this season and has become a first-team regular over the last few weeks.

He has benched new signings like Anwar El Ghazi and Andros Townsend – which has seen Keys give him a special mention in his recent blog post.

He wrote, “They’ve got a gem in Anthony Gordon. I’ll say again – ‘new’ Steven Gerrard. He reminds me so much of the former Liverpool skipper.

“His gangly teenage gate is the same. He loves a tackle. He can spray passes about and run all day. He’s also got an eye for a goal He’s special. But he’s about all they have got despite the big spend – and he was for nothing.”

Some comparison

While the two players do not play in the same positions, it is a comparison Gordon will surely take.

Gerrard is public enemy number one at Goodison Park, but nobody would deny what a terrific player he used to be.

He singlehandedly won games for Liverpool and was their influential captain as they lifted the Champions League.

There were signs of him being a special player from his early days and if Keys sees some similarities in Gordon, then he’s possibly destined for greatness as well.

Hopefully, he continues progressing as he has this season and he could become a cult hero within the next few years at the club.
