Everton chairman Bill Kenwright shares ‘enormous’ Bramley-Moore view

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has spoken of the “enormous” progress made on the new stadium being built on Bramley-Moore Dock.

The 76-year-old has paid tribute to Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri, claiming the club wouldn’t be where they are now without the British-Iranian businessman.

Exactly one year one from the development was approved Kenwright called the new stadium “a piece of local history”.

He told Liverpool ECHO: “The outcome of that landmark meeting, on February 23, 2021, is now a significant piece of local history – and an enormous amount of work has already been completed since that momentous day.

“We have witnessed the decommissioning of unexploded wartime devices, the relocation of marine wildlife – and the Herculean task of some 500,000 cubic metres of sand being transported in from the Irish Sea, by a dredger called Shoalway, to infill the Bramley-Moore Dock. That was all so much preparatory work.

“In August we were involved in a modest project commencement ceremony to mark the breaking of ground and since then work began in earnest to sink 2,500 concrete piles into the ground that will provide the building blocks for the new structure.

“Physically seeing structures rise from the ground on the Dock fills me with an enormous sense of pride – and it goes without saying that we would not be in the position we are now without our owner, Farhad Moshiri’s, continued support on every level, and the drive and determination of Denise and her team.”

New era

Wow, one year already. It doesn’t seem like that long ago at all that the fans were blessed with the news the new stadium is going ahead.

The Toffees all love Goodison Park but if you look at the Premier League stadiums of all of the top clubs in England, Everton are way wide of the mark.

It is a piece of history that will never, ever be forgotten but an upgrade was very overdue.

After years of speculation and doubt whether the stadium was going to actually happen, Evertonians can sit back with a grin on their face knowing they will have one of the newest stadiums in the Premier League.

It is going to do wonders for the city of Liverpool but more importantly, the team needs to be in the best shape possible when making the move – can you imagine playing in a stadium like that in the Championship?

Therefore, it is imperative Frank Lampard get this team playing and lift the Blues as far away from the relegation zone as possible.

In other Everton news, Abdoulaye Doucoure is back in full training at Finch Farm.
