View: Three major issues that have led Everton to the mess they are today
Everton are one of the biggest teams in English football; they have an illustrious history that clubs can only dream of.
They have enjoyed so much success over the years, winning 24 trophies including a stunning nine league titles but in recent years, things on the blue half of Merseyside haven’t been good at all.
Gone are the days of Howard Kendall, Joe Royle, Walter Smith and even David Moyes. The Blues find themselves on the longest trophy drought in their history having not lifted a piece of silverware since 1995 and have barely gotten close to ending it.

Here are three major reasons for the Toffees rapid decline…
Farhad Moshiri
First and foremost, the club’s filthy rich owner, Farhad Moshiri. When he bought the club in 2016 it was a really exciting time to be a Blue, the club felt as if it was on the. Brink of a new era with huge success round the corner.
The trouble is the British-Iranian businessman seems to have treated owning a Premier League club like a hobby. There has been no clear plan as money has been thrown at the club left, right and centre which in all honesty has put the club in a worse state than when he took over.
He has spent a whopping £561.88 million on transfers alone under six different managers which has left the squad in a sorry state. That is without counting the fees of sacking the managers, paying players disgustingly high wages and the lucrative new Bramley Moore dock stadium. Moshiri blindly throwing money at the club and trying to have a hand in the football side of the business has almost ruined Everton.

The managers
With it being way too early to judge Frank Lampard, it is safe to say the Blues’ last good manager was David Moyes. Everton were very competitive during his time, reaching their only cup final since 1995 and consistently challenging for the top four.
Since the Scots departure, the club have established themselves at the fifth highest paying club in terms of their managers, handing out over £18million to managers that were very unsuccessful at the club.
You can’t place all of the blame on them, a lot of them weren’t given enough time and inherited very poor squads but the continuous changing of those in charge, especially the likes of Rafa Benitez, Carlo Ancelotti and Marco Silva, have contributed to the mess the club finds themselves in.
Marcel Brands
Having a director of football is vital to a team’s success, Moshiri was definitely barking up the right tree when appointing one but not the clown that is Marcel Brands. The Dutchman spent £300 million on 26 players during his time at the club with clearly very little success.

It is so much easier to name Everton signings that have flopped rather than name some that have come in and made the team better which shows the size of the problem and justifies his departure.
Some of his worst pieces of business include the signings of Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Moise Kean, Josh King, James Rodriguez and Fabian Delph. The bottom line is, the Toffees have spent far too much on player fees and have given most of their signings little incentive to perform with huge wages from the off.
If Everton can improve these three areas, which they slowly but surely look to be doing, there is no doubt they can return to the top of English football. Maybe just in time for the move to their new stadium.
