Paul Merson: Everton in ‘major trouble’, predicts result v Spurs
Paul Merson has insisted that Everton are in “major trouble” in the Premier League relegation fight this season.
The Toffees travel to Spurs on Monday evening, with Frank Lampard’s men potentially in the bottom three before that.
Merson believes that it won’t get much better in London, predicting that it will finish 2-0 to the home side.

Writing in his Sportskeeda column, Merson predicted big trouble for the Toffees in the Premier League this season.
“I don’t know if Tottenham Hotspur are still in the top four race because they are so unpredictable, but Everton are in a relegation battle without a shadow of a doubt,” he wrote.
“They are in major trouble and their fans will want them to have a go this week, which will play to Spurs’ strengths because they are a threat on the counter.
“The result will depend on which version of Tottenham turn up. If it’s the team that played against Manchester City, they will get three points, but if the team that lost to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup comes to the fore, then Everton will win.
“This is a hard game to call, but I think Spurs will win and compile Everton’s misery.”

Misery?
Spurs are not in the best of places themselves, with the win over Leeds last week not exactly a result that shows they are back to their best.
A defeat to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup followed in midweek, and Antonio Conte is on the very edge in each of his interviews.
It will be a hostile environment in the capital on Monday evening, and whoever gets the first goal will really pile on the pressure.
Lampard will know that, and if we can put in a similar performance as we did against Manchester City, we have every chance.
The big problem is the inconsistency within the squad at this moment in time, something that needs to be sorted as soon as possible.
We are running out of time, and we have to start picking up wins.
