Everton may face Tottenham Hotspur-esque situation for stadium naming rights

Everton may reportedly have to go down a similar route as Tottenham Hotspur for the naming rights of their new stadium.

According to the Liverpool Echo, after the suspension of USM’s naming rights agreement, there are plenty of doubts as to what will happen to the stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

They could follow the route of fellow Premier League side Spurs, who are yet to find a name sponsor.

The Whites moved into their new stadium in 2019 and after three years, it still is called the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Everton’s ground is set to open in the 2024/25 season, but could make a decision on their sponsor a few years after that as well.

Right move?

A move to a new facility always gives rise to the opportunity of getting into sponsorship deals.

It is an expensive affair, no doubt, but in the long run, it benefits clubs and could be a life-changing experience for fans and employees.

That said, Spurs have shown that one could delay getting name sponsors, but they’re not really the example of a well-run club.

Daniel Levy has been notorious with the purse strings at Spurs and that’s not a precedent one would want to set at Everton.

Thus, it remains to be seen how this all pans out and these are interesting times for the club.
