Richard Keys says Everton must build about ‘gem’ Anthony Gordon after what he read

Richard Keys has been waxing lyrical about Anthony Gordon and wants Everton to build their team around the young attacker.

In what has been a bleak season on Merseyside, 21-year-old Gordon has been a shining light, breaking into the senior side and performing above and beyond expectations.

Gordon has spoken to The Telegraph this weekend (12 March) and after reading the youngster admit how the Blues keep making the same mistakes, Keys couldn’t help but share his admiration for the youngster.

Everton

“I was reading an article with Anthony Gordon today,” said Keys, as shown in a video clip on the beIN SPORTS Twitter account on Sunday prior to the defeat to Wolves. “He’s an absolute gem, isn’t he?

“Whatever happens to Everton now, build around that young man.”

Our future

Gordon has been the only player worth raving about in what has been a horrible season for the Blues.

The 21-year-old has scored three goals and supplied two assists in 23 Premier League appearances for the Toffees this season.

He ran the show in what’s been our only league win since the start of December when Everton won 3-0 against Leeds on 12 February.

In that game, the England Under-21 international scored once and grabbed an assist in what was a huge win at the time.

Of course, since then, things have been woeful but Gordon has proven to be the only positive amid a sea of frustration.

Keys is actually right, Everton should be built around Gordon.

And based on the financial situation at Goodison Park, more and more youngsters may have to be trusted to star in the senior side because it doesn’t seem like we have much chance of signing new players.

Gordon can be a star for the Blues but we need to ensure he doesn’t go anywhere because if we go down, other clubs will no doubt begin to circle.
