Paul Merson destroys Everton in major relegation prediction

Paul Merson has emptied both barrels on Everton as their relegation woes get worse following yesterday’s (March 13) defeat to Wolves.

Frank Lampard’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park thanks to a second half goal from Conor Coady which left them level on points with 18th placed Watford.

Merson slammed the “atrocious” Toffees, claiming the tough fixtures they face will see them relegated come to the end of the season.

Writing in his Sky Sports column, he said: “Everton have got to go and win that game now – a draw’s no good.

“They’ve had some injuries in key places. They need Dominic Calvert-Lewin back and firing. But they’re sort of in that situation where it’s Everton, never been relegated, so they go out and try to play entertaining, attacking football.

“I don’t know if Everton think they’re too good just to go and get a point somewhere, because points mount up. At the moment they’re chasing their tails. Wolves at home wasn’t a good day at the office, so just get a point – you’ve got to start a run somewhere.

“I’m looking at Everton’s fixtures and the way they’re playing and I think they’re in big trouble. I think they’re the ones to go now. You’ve only got to look at their fixtures – they’re atrocious. I just can’t see how they stay up.”

Shocking

This truly is a dire state of affairs for Everton, a club that have never, ever been relegated from the topflight of English football.

It just goes to show, Farhad Moshiri can throw as much money at as many managers as he wants, it simply will not work.

It really is hard to see how this crisis concludes. The Blues have several games in hand over their relegation rivals but also suffer from a much harder run of fixtures and have definitely shown less fight in recent weeks than the other teams in the mix to go down.

The defeat at home to Wolves might be a sign that the Toffees are going down.

They have been fairly solid at Goodison Park since the arrival of Lampard but yesterday the team hit a new low which nobody thought was possible after the Spurs thumping.

If things don’t change quickly, the Blues are nailed on to be playing Championship football next season.
